Unomedical head towards Aspen

KCI patents upheld
Two key patents have been upheld by a federal court. The market reacted favorably to this news even though the 2006 court decision partially in favor of competitor Blue Sky was not overturned. Read more at Blue Skies for KCI.

KCI profits down
KCI report a 21.7 percent drop in profit from 12 months ago. This is blamed on restructuring costs and the acquisition of LifeCell.

The good news and the bad news
ConvaTec have announced signing of a long-term global agreement with Boehringer Technologies to market and distribute Boehringer's Engenex(R) Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System. The press release may be viewed at ConvaTec and Boehringer. It seems that KCI do not like another threat looming on the NPWT horizon and have filed a patent infringement suit against ConvaTec and Boehringer. C'est la vie, c'est la guerre

New study on Quick-Med's NIMBUS(R) Technology - No Threat of Bacterial Resistance
Quick-Med have presented conclusive evidence at Symposium on Skin and Wound Care that their NIMBUS(R) antimicrobial technology poses no threat of bacterial resistance. This must be welcome news in days of frequent reports of serious infections from exposure to MRSA and VRE. Read more at No Threat

A recent opinion piece in Journal of Wound Care questions the value of Best Practice statements. The authors K Cutting and R White suggest that we should take a look at their provenance before blindly adopting them. The reference is
