Microbiology of Wounds - new book published
A new book that examines the microbiology of wounds has recently been published by CRC Press. The editors S.L. Percival and K.F. Cutting claim that this is the first substantive textbook to not only concentrate on wound microbiology but also to focus on the role of biofilms in wound infection. The sociable bug
Bacteria are very sociable units of life which can physically and chemically interact with one another. Researchers at Binghamton University, State University of New York, Center for Biofilm Engineering at Montana State University and the South West Regional Wound Care Center in Lubbock, Texas have found that depending on the 'language' (cell-cell communication molecules) spoken by bacteria will determine whether they are 'good' or 'bad' for the host. NPWT under FDA scrutiny
Care facilities should lookout for serious complications incl. risk of death, fatal bleeding and infections from use of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) systems says U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Apparently there have been reports of 6 deaths and 77 injuries associated with NPWT systems over the past two years with bleeding being the most serious.
